It is our great pleasure to announce that the 2nd Iranian Iron Academy was held successfully by Barsian darou in close cooperation with National Association of Iranian Gynecologists & Obstetricians (NAIGO), on 28th November 2019 in Espinas Palace Hotel, Tehran-Iran.

2nd Iranian Iron Academy brought together a number of 300 Obstetricians and Gynecologists with an interest in iron deficiency (ID) and iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in different therapeutic areas like pregnancy, post-partum, heavy menstrual bleeding and patient blood management in gynecological surgeries.

 

 

Event Summary:

The executive secretary of the 2nd Iranian Iron Academy opened the meeting and welcomed the attendees noting that Gynecology/Obstetrics is a specialty closely related to the blood and Iron Deficiency/Iron Deficiency Anemia due to patient blood mismanagement, negatively impact on women’s quality of life. Then the event continued with a very impressive lecture on Iron Deficiency/Iron Deficiency Anemia in the lifespan of a woman globally and then focused on Iran perspectives. Following the epidemiology topics, there was a review session on pathophysiology and diagnostics parameters of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia hold by one of the Iran university professors in Hematology/Oncology. Also, different diagnostic and treatment approaches to these conditions were discussed in details.

 

After a short coffee break, the program went on with international evidences, to optimize patients outcomes on Iron Deficiency/Iron Deficiency Anemia in peri-partum period (Pregnancy and postpartum).

 

The newly brought up topic in the 2nd Iranian Iron Academy, was patient blood management in gynecological surgeries. Two scientific experts from Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization (IBTO), discussed patient blood management and optimal utilization of blood. Also, the recent guidelines on patient blood management in obstetrics and gynecology field were fully addressed.

 

Next, there were two panel discussions, one after the other. The purpose of holding these two panels was to create the opportunity of scientific exchange on different patient cases.

 

 

The key scientific learning objectives of 2nd Iranian Iron Academy were to:

 

* Increase awareness about the prevalence of iron deficiency/iron deficiency anemia in obstetrics and gynecology and its clinical, social and economic consequences

* Discuss the challenges relating to diagnosis of iron deficiency/iron deficiency anemia in obstetrics(pregnancy and post-partum) and gynecology (patient blood management in gynecological surgeries) and assess the national unmet needs

* Provide an update on the latest clinical developments relating to the management of iron deficiency/iron deficiency anemia and review the treatment options/share practical experience of managing iron deficiency/iron deficiency anemia in obstetrics (pregnancy and post-partum) and gynecology (patient blood management in gynecological surgeries)

* Share clinical experiences among obstetricians and gynecologists across different hospitals and centers in Tehran

 

2nd Iranian Iron Academy was accredited by National Association of Iranian Gynecologists & Obstetricians (NAIGO), to provide the following CME activity for medical specialists. 2nd Iranian Iron Academy 2019 was designated for a maximum of 5 hours of CME credits.
